Yoga is one of the first tools that landed in my lap during my deepest darkest days. I was absolutely run down from my obsessive exercise. I was withering away before everyones eyes except my own, and no matter what I just kept pushing myself to go harder, to become the vision of perfect I had in my mind. The first time I ever did yoga was from one of my moms dvds. Although the class was somewhat boring to me at the time, by the end of it something microscopic had changed inside of me. I felt a sense of calm I hadn't felt in years. It got me hooked!

That's what yoga is supposed to do, and the whole reason the yoga asanas (postures) were created in the first place was to prepare the body for meditation. The poses are meant to cultivate fire, strength, and obstacles so you can completely chill out, relax and actually FEEL what it's like to be connected to your breath and your body. There are so many different types of yoga out there now, which is fine in my eyes, it gets you on the mat! But the deeper purpose is always there, and if the sequence is delivered with passion and purpose, you will slowly start to sense a spiritual shift happen to you on and off your mat.

I create yoga sequences based on the level of the practitioner I am with. So that means every class is different for every body! Some days are invigorating and enable you to push past your boundaries and allow for deeper strength sessions, and then there are sessions where we learn what the yin side of yoga is, holding and perfecting stretches for 2-5 minutes a piece, leaving you feeling renewed and as bendy as a rubber band. It is so important to balance your practice, just as in life. Everything is both yin [cool, calm] and yang [warm, energized] in nature.
